AICTE National Internship Portal 2026: Features, Benefits & How to Register

By Yuvraj Nimankar | Updated 17 October 2026

This is an unofficial explainer. We are not AICTE, the Ministry of Education or the operators of the portal.

AICTE National Internships Portal 2026 is the Ministry of Education’s free platform where students can create one profile and apply for internships offered by government organisations, companies and training partners. This guide explains how the portal works in practice, what its published numbers indicate about internship opportunities, and what students should know about its limitations. Registration is covered briefly near the end, while our detailed registration guide explains each field step by step. Remember, registration only gives you access to the platform—it does not guarantee internship selection.

Portal status

Live as of 17 October 2026. We read the portal’s home page on that date. We did not log in, so we could not check individual postings, stipends or deadlines. Each posting sets its own window, and the portal’s own “Closing This Week” view shows how short some of them are.

What the numbers say about your odds

Portal statistics circulate widely and are often quoted without context. AICTE’s 2025–26 figures, as summarised in a Times of India report, are below. The portal’s own home page shows the same 79,57,193 internships figure.

Reported figure Value
Student registrations 4.7 crore
Verified learners 2.9 crore
Internship opportunities 79,57,193
Completed internships 32,78,900
Companies 81,483 (the home page shows 83,170, so counters move)
Colleges 12,077
Domains 200

Our arithmetic on those figures, which is not an official statistic:

  • Completed internships equal about 7 for every 100 registrations.
  • Opportunities posted equal about 17 for every 100 registrations.
  • Completed internships equal about 41 for every 100 opportunities posted.

The ratios mix cumulative counts over different periods, and some registered students never apply, so none of them is a selection rate. They do show that registering is easy and completing an internship is much less common. Treat the portal as a place to apply carefully and widely, not as a guarantee.

Features, benefits and the catch

Feature What the portal says Benefit to you The catch
One profile for many postings One profile goes to every opening, and applications are tracked No retyping details for each posting A thin profile weakens every application at once
Matching Openings are scored against your branch, year, city and skills, then ranked Less scrolling The scoring method is not published, so treat it as a claim
College validation Your institute validates your profile and availability A verifiable record Your college must act, and delays are outside your control
Filters Remote & Hybrid, closing this week, highest stipend, state and district, duration Quick shortlisting A filter shows what is listed, not what is a good fit
Government mission pages TULIP, NHAI, MoRTH, AMRUT, C-DAC, the Indian Army and state departments Access to public-sector hosts that are hard to find elsewhere Many are location-bound, and some have their own eligibility rules
Declared stipends Stipends are declared upfront and paid monthly to your bank account You see pay before you apply Not every posting pays, so read the stipend line
Credits Completed internships are approved for the Academic Bank of Credits Credits travel with you Your college decides how it counts them
QR certificate Scanning opens the portal’s verification page Recruiters can check it in seconds It proves you completed the internship, not how well you did
Employer vetting The portal states employers are vetted through a KYC desk Fewer fake postings We cannot audit this, so keep checking hosts yourself
Support Helpline, IVR line and email, with replies promised within 48 hours A route when something breaks The helpline runs on weekdays only
Role-based logins Separate logins for students, institutes, employers, army, urban bodies, rural bodies, NHAI, railways and young professionals Each group sees its own tools Make sure you pick the student login

The strongest practical features are the declared stipend and the verifiable certificate. Matching and employer vetting are claims you should test on your own.

Who benefits most

  • Students outside big metros, because one profile reaches hosts across states without travelling to interviews.
  • Students who need credits, since postings are structured for the credit system, once your college agrees.
  • Students interested in public-sector exposure, because the mission pages bring together hosts that rarely advertise elsewhere.
  • Remote seekers, because the Remote & Hybrid view narrows the list quickly.

It helps least if you want a guaranteed placement or a specific brand name, because neither is promised.

What the portal does not promise

  • A stipend for everyone. The registration page uses the phrase “Verified Monthly Stipend Guarantee,” while the About page says stipends apply across most partners. The posting is the authority.
  • An internship. The portal says employers respond inside it, but it publishes no selection rates.
  • A particular domain. The portal calls AI, ML and data the most-applied domain, which means the most competition.
  • A private provider’s endorsement. Providers outside the portal sometimes use AICTE’s name in their own materials. That does not make them part of this platform. If a provider says its internship is AICTE approved, ask for the approval reference in writing and look for the posting on the portal itself.

One more thing to know: registration asks for an ID card image and an Aadhaar number. Read the portal’s Terms and Privacy Policy before you register, and enter data only on internship.aicte-india.org.

How to register: the short version

The sign-up screen is a single form. The portal itself shows about four minutes for this step, though gathering your documents takes longer.

  1. Type internship.aicte-india.org into your browser yourself.
  2. Choose Register Free, then select Student Candidate.
  3. Pick AICTE affiliated or Non-AICTE, then search for your institute.
  4. Fill in your personal and academic details, upload an ID card image (JPG, JPEG or PNG, under 3 MB) and enter your Aadhaar number.
  5. Set a security question and a password with at least 8 characters, including upper-case, lower-case and a number.
  6. Accept the terms and select Register Account, then follow the prompts.

Your first week after registering

Day Do this
1 Complete every profile field, using the same spellings as your college records
2 Ask your training and placement officer to validate your profile
3 Search by keyword for your branch and note ten postings
4 Cut the list to five using the two-minute check below
5 Apply to those five, with the strongest first
6 Record each application: host, deadline, status
7 Review and add one more posting if a deadline is near

A two-minute check for any posting

Question Where to look Warning sign
Who is the host? Posting header A name you cannot verify elsewhere
What will you do? Responsibilities Only “learn” or “training” with no output
Does it pay? Stipend line A figure promised outside the portal
Where and how? Mode and location On-site in a city you cannot reach
How long? Duration A length that clashes with exams
When does it close? Last date A deadline within days
Who certifies? Certificate note A different issuer from the host

The portal says stipends are never negotiated in direct messages. Treat any request to move payment or conversation off the portal as a reason to stop.

Is it worth it?

Yes, for most students. It costs nothing, takes a few minutes to join, and puts credit-linked and public-sector postings in one place. It works best if you finish your profile, get your college to validate it, and apply with a clear focus.

The reported numbers show that only a small share of registrations lead to completed internships, so expect to apply to several postings. Treat the portal as one source alongside your placement cell and company career pages.

FAQs

Is the portal only for engineering students? No. The home page also lists streams such as management and commerce, law, pharmacy, agriculture and hotel management, and the title names AICTE, UGC and IGNOU students.

Can I use it if my college is not AICTE-affiliated? Yes, through the Non-AICTE option.

How many postings can I apply to at once? The portal has an FAQ on this, but its answer was not visible in the page text we read. Check before you apply.

Is the stipend guaranteed? Not as far as we can confirm. Read each posting’s stipend line.

Who validates my profile? Your institute, according to the portal.

Can an employer ask me to pay? The portal says registration, applications, shortlisting and the certificate are free for students, and it asks you to report anyone who charges. Write to internship@aicte-india.org.

Who sees my profile? The pages we read do not say. Read the portal’s Privacy Policy.
